Repair of Additive Manufactured Products by Electro-Spark Deposition

Additive manufacturing allows for the layer by layer fabrication of Ni-superalloy parts from powder feedstock. These parts face high surface roughness due to partially melted particles, spatter or incomplete sintering. Additionally, prior to use in some high temperature environments, Ni-superalloy parts are given oxidation and hot corrosion resistant coatings.

An electrospark deposition post-processing method is being developed to simplify and concurrently address both surface roughness and coating application in additive manufactured Ni-superalloys.
