Dissimilar Metal Welds for Power Generation Applications

•Dissimilar metal welds between creep strength enhanced ferritic and stainless steels with Ni-based filler metals are commonly used in industrial applications
•These DMWs can fail unpredictably and prematurely near the fusion line, causing highly expensive down time in production
•These DMWs can also contain large δ ferrite grain in the HAZ, which can only be explained via carbon depletion
•Carbon diffusion is significant because of its effect on the creep strength of Grade 91 steel
